Thank you for visiting the Mackworth House School website. I hope you find it informative.

We provide high quality, specialist education for boys and girls aged 6 to 19 years who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), often with additional learning and/or communication difficulties. We are an independent school on the western edge of the City of Derby in the East Midlands. Our pupils usually have an Education, Health and care Plan (EHCP), funded by the local authority responsible for the EHCP.

We have recently been approved by the Department for Education and Ofsted and are able to accept term-time boarders.  We welcome enquiries for both day and boarding provision at our school.

We are small in size and pupil numbers (18 maximum) and we are able to provide genuinely individualised learning; onsite daily therapy; and daily offsite personal development activities. Our classrooms never have more than 4 pupils. Many of our lessons are individual learning or personal development sessions.

We maintain a relaxed, happy, low stimulus fully supervised environment for children for 32.5 hours per week between 9am to 3.30pm daily.

We have a specialist 25sqm sensory room, a specialised therapeutic gym and a quiet reading room, in addition to our low stimulus classrooms. We have our Paediatric Occupational Therapist and our Speech and Language Therapist onsite for daily therapy sessions.

As you will see our 2018 OFSTED rating concludes we are a ‘Good’ School with some outstanding features and that we meet the Department for Education Independent School Standards.

If you are interested in what we offer, contact the school and come and see for yourself. We would be delighted to meet you.
